Bjarni is "on call" this weekend, which basically means he can't be more than three minutes away from the internet at any given time. Well, I think I was "on call" for the last six months then, in that case. Although I've been pretty slack recently because I've been so busy starting back at school.
So while Bjarni sits with his encyclopedia ready just in case somebody Googles something, I'm happily catching up on sleeping and blogging. Because as much as I like to rib Bjarni for being a geek, what with writing code being his special super-power and everything, I'm really just as nerdy as he is. But let's not forget that it was him who once took my hand over the dinner table and said earnestly:
"I don't want to sound too geeky, but sometimes this whole internet thing is like that film Revenge of the Nerds actually came true."

Indeed, and that is what is so wonderful about it.
ReplyDeleteIn that photo, it looks as if he's about to squeeze a lady's bosoms, but isn't exactly relishing the prospect.
ReplyDeleteAaww! Such a sweet thing to say. What a guy! What a guy!
ReplyDeleteAnd you have chosen him.
ReplyDeleteThe geeks shall inherit the earth.
ReplyDeleteif that ain't a keeper i dunno what is!
ReplyDeleteRevenge of the Isolated Socially Fearful . . . was there a movie with that title by chance?
ReplyDeleteThat's my next post, Bobby, and I'm coming after you.
ReplyDelete"Bjarni sits with his encyclopedia ready just in case somebody Googles something"
ReplyDeleteWhat the hell does that mean???
I think it's a bit of hyperbole. He probably doesn't even have to use an encyclopaedia at all. He just has this really long list of websites, sorted by subject.
ReplyDeleteAahh, tis twoo wuuve!
ReplyDeleteWhat does he do?? Specifically, I mean.. if someone googles something, I mean.. ??
ReplyDeleteWe have a room in our apartment full of reference books and files and stuff. So if somebody Googles, for example, "Isabella Snow", he'll sort through the files in the room and pull out everything he can find about her, then he quickly types it up and onto the Google web page.
ReplyDeleteGeek is the new chic, sort of like pink is the new black (or is it green is the new pink?).
ReplyDeleteNeal, "I used to be a nerd, now I'm an action nerd" is one of my favourite blonk sub-heads.
ReplyDeleteI should have seen that coming.
ReplyDelete*sigh*
Sorry, I couldn't resist. The truth is I'm not sure exactly what Bjarni does at Google, except that it's something to do with writing code, and generally making the office a happier place for everybody.
ReplyDeleteI walked through Belfield on Sunday and the buildings are sufficient to cow anybody into silence.
ReplyDelete"So if somebody Googles, for example, "Isabella Snow", he'll sort through the files in the room and pull out everything he can find about her, then he quickly types it up and onto the Google web page."
ReplyDeleteI always thought that that was how the internets worked. Well done Bjarni - without him there'd be no blogging.
And then what would we DO all day?
Nerd power! Nyeh! Nyeh!
